The coin's obverse, skillfully designed by John Mercanti, a dedicated member of the U.S. Mint since 1974, features a depiction of Crispus Attucks. On the reverse side, you'll find a detail from the upcoming Black Patriots Memorial planned for the National Mall. This memorial will pay tribute not only to the patriots themselves but also to their families. The reverse design was created by Ed Dwight, a former Air Force test pilot, engineer, and the first African American trained as an astronaut. He holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in sculpture and is renowned for his extensive portfolio of gallery art. Notably, he has focused on large-scale installations honoring African Americans, including his commission to create the Black Patriots Memorial showcased on this coin.
